fyi: The 4 DYC Assemblies will be offered each month of 2012. Membership in three of the 4 includes a commitment to a daily practice and monthly attendance for at least one-year.
The DHARMA Assembly is a great wander through the teachings of Sino-Indian and Central Asian cosmology and philosophy that informs the contemplative traditions of Daoist, Chan/Zen, Tantric Buddhism – even Confucianism. Material will be resourced from literature, sutras, hagiographies and the history/development of Asia’s great “isms”. This assembly is open to the public. Each class will have a unique presentation and is open to any and all listeners.
The GESAR Assembly is made up of people committed to complete the practice of Longchen Nyingthik Ngondro – a preliminary and/or summary practice associated with Tantric Buddhism. This assembly focuses on a sequence of practices informed by both Tantric and Dzogchen perspectives. The group will close membership in March 2012.
The CINNABAR Assembly is made up of people who are practicing Daoist “neidan” and “waidan”. The emphasis here is on the bioenergetics of Daoism referred to as hygiene practices (diet, astrol-geomancy, neigong and more) designed to support meditation practice. Commitment is for a minimum of one-year. Those wishing to join this assembly will need to listen to several recorded preliminary talks. Membership will close in March 2012.
The BAMBOO Assembly is made up of people who practice “zuowang” non-conceptual meditation in a minimum one-year commitment (daily 1 hr. practice and monthly attendance). The assembly happens each month to study Laozi/Daodejing (Liu Ming’s unpublished translation) and the various supplementary practices of DYC. It has been meeting steadily for more than 15 years. Membership will close in March 2012.
The CHINESE ASTROLOGY series is the in depth study of the Celestial Stems, Earthly Branches and the Song dynasty natal system called “Polestar” astrology. The course is designed to equip students to assess the character and fate of individuals as professional astrologers. The course will be divided into 8-week sections and will run throughout 2012. The curriculum will be offered over a 2-year period. Consistent enrollment is required (missed classes can be downloaded). Distant-students (recordings only) will be welcome beginning in April.
The NOURISHING WITHIN series is about the inner/outer qi quality of the 24 Qi Nodes that define the seasons of the Chinese lunar almanac/calendar. What food, conduct and medical treatments are most effective in calibrating our qi to Nature (Dao) – what is health and synchronicity? References are made to Chinese almanac astrology, medical Classics, Daoist, Buddhist and Confucian philosophy and practice. These classes are open to everyone. The class includes lecture, cooking class/meal and discussion.
The HEALING APPRENTICESHIP is a series that defines
the theory and practice of Chinese Daoist Physiology applied to the Healing Arts.
In this course we will wander over Daoist-inspired medical and mantic sciences (astrology/fengshui and human physiology) with an eye to the applications that may be suited to a modern healthcare practice. The course is geared towards broadening one’s approach to healing patients and not focused on refining the logic of specific “silver bullet” treatments.
